Theatrical Triple Threat Program

Our Theatrical Triple Threats is an audition-based, selective-entry musical theatre program tailored for talented individuals aged 8-16.

Our program is designed to provide a transformative and immersive experience for young people passionate about honing their skills in singing, acting, and dancing. Through a rigorous audition process, we assemble a community of like-minded young performers, fostering an environment where creativity, discipline, and artistic excellence thrive. Through a dynamic curriculum led by experienced instructors, our program not only cultivates excellence in performing but also instills confidence and a lifelong love for the arts.

Throughout the 20-week program, participants begin by honing the fundamental skills necessary for harnessing and refining their talents, culminating in the exciting experience of a full-scale musical theatre production. From mastering vocal techniques to perfecting choreography and character portrayal, our comprehensive program ensures that each participant not only develops their artistic abilities but also gains invaluable stage experience. Theatrical Academy offers participants a hands-on musical theatre training experience that mirrors the real-world demands of the industry.

Auditions for our July-December program are now open. All the details are in the Theatrical Academy Handbook, but the main points are:

  • Auditions must be received before 5pm 10 May 2024 (AEST)
  • Sessions run on a Tuesday and Thursday after school and on Saturday afternoon
  • Term 1 runs from 15 July to 20 September 2024
  • Term 2 runs from 7 October to 13 December 2024
  • The production will run at the National Theatre from 19-22 December 2024
  • The fees are $155 per week
  •  There is an optional Audition Workshop available to anyone who would like some additional help and support (this includes song selection, help with making a self-tape and audition tips and tricks)

Acting

Our acting sessions for young people create a dynamic and supportive learning environment that nurtures creativity and self-expression. At Theatrical Academy, experienced and passionate instructors guide participants through a curriculum designed to develop fundamental acting skills. With age-appropriate content and a focus on fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere, our Theatrical Triple Threat program ensure that every participant feels valued and supported. Through a blend of structured lessons, collaborative projects, and performance opportunities, we aim to instill a lifelong appreciation for the art of acting and provide a platform for young talents to shine.

Singing

Our musical theatre singing sessions for young people offers a comprehensive and enriching learning experience that goes beyond traditional vocal training. Led by skilled instructors with a passion for both music and education, these classes focus on honing vocal techniques specific to musical theatre. We emphasise the importance of maintaining vocal health through exercises that strengthen the vocal cords and promote endurance. Our participants learn to navigate the challenges of live performances while preserving their voices for longevity in the world of musical theatre. Through collaborative exercises, stage presence development, and personalized coaching, our participants gain the confidence and skills needed to shine on the musical theatre stage.

Dancing

Our musical theatre dancing sessions for children and teenagers provide a dynamic and joyous introduction to the world of dance. Led by experienced instructors passionate about both dance and education, our sessions focus on building a strong foundation in various dance styles commonly featured in musical theatre productions. Through engaging choreography, collaborative group performances, and individualized coaching, our goal is to not only develop technical proficiency but also to instill a love for the expressive art of dance. By fostering a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, we aim to instill not only performance skills but also a sense of self-confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being in our participants. Our holistic approach ensures that children and teenagers not only excel in musical theatre perrorming but also develop habits that contribute to a balanced and fulfilling life.

Audition Workshop

The one-day musical theatre audition workshop for children and teenagers is a vibrant and immersive experience designed to nurture young talents in the world of performing arts. Held in a spacious and creatively charged environment, this workshop brings together aspiring young performers eager to explore the realms of musical theatre. From vocal techniques to stage presence, the workshop covers a comprehensive range of skills essential for excelling in auditions to support prospective participants best prepare for an audition, including but not limited to those seeking admission into the Theatrical Academy Program.

Skill Development Sessions

The day kicks off with dynamic skill development sessions led by seasoned musical theatre professionals. Participants engage in vocal warm-ups and exercises tailored to enhance their singing abilities. Our Audition Workshop also provides insights into the audition process, offering valuable tips on selecting appropriate audition pieces and mastering the art of storytelling through song and dance.

Collaborative Learning and Performance

A key highlight of the workshop is the collaborative learning environment, fostering teamwork and camaraderie among participants. Through group activities and ensemble exercises, children and teenagers not only refine their individual skills but also learn the importance of working together in a theatrical setting.

Feedback and Encouragement

Throughout our Audition Workshop, participants receive constructive feedback from instructors, helping them identify areas for improvement and build confidence. The supportive and encouraging atmosphere ensures that each child and teenager leaves with a sense of accomplishment and newfound knowledge. Parents are invited to witness the final performance, creating a sense of community and celebration as they witness the growth and potential of their young performers. The Theatrical Academy Audition Workshop is crafted to enhance the preparedness of young performers for auditions. Recognising the subjective and competitive nature of casting, it’s important to note that while attending the workshop can significantly improve a candidate’s readiness for musical theatre auditions, we cannot guarantee a successful outcome. This includes, but is not limited to, auditions for admission to the Theatrical Triple Threat Program.
